Egyptologist / Keeper of Egypt’s Sacred Story

First, tell us your name, where you’re from, and where you currently live.

My name is Hamdy Mohamed. I was born and raised in Luxor, Egypt, and I continue to live there close to the history and culture that have shaped my entire life. Luxor and Egypt is not only my home — it is who I am.

At what age did you first realize that Egypt’s history, sacred sites, and living stories were part of your path? What was that experience like for you?

From a young age, I was drawn to the stories of our ancestors, and I felt that Egypt was never just a place. It is a living story. When you grow up surrounded by temples, sacred mountains, the Nile, and the footsteps of civilizations that shaped the world, you begin to feel that history is still alive around you. At some point I realized this was not only something to admire, but something I was meant to help others feel for themselves. That is when I understood it was my path.

How has staying true to your own vision of Egypt and its deeper truths contributed to your journey? Have there been any downsides to doing so?

I have always believed Egypt is more than monuments and photographs. The real beauty is in the living story, the spirit of the places, and the connection between the past and the people who walk here today. Staying true to that has allowed me to create deeper experiences for travelers. The only downside is that not everyone is looking for depth, but the ones who are always find something unforgettable.

What are some of the influences that continue to drive your purpose as an Egyptologist and guide?

Egypt itself continues to drive my purpose. This land carries layers that go far beyond history books — the memory of ancient kings and queens, the wisdom of the temples, the sacredness of Sinai, the Nile as the lifeblood of civilization, and the sense that humanity has always been in conversation with something greater here. Every time I guide someone through Egypt, I feel I am helping them step into one of the great living centers of human story.

What is your greatest joy in guiding others through Egypt’s history, mystery, and sacred spaces?

My greatest joy is watching someone feel Egypt beyond what they can see. It is one thing to stand before the pyramids, the temples of Luxor, or the waters of the Nile. It is another thing to feel the age, the mystery, and the life that still moves through these places. When that happens, Egypt stops being a destination and becomes an experience they carry forever.

Are there any challenges that still arise when helping travelers truly feel the deeper spirit and story of Egypt beyond what they can simply see?

Yes, sometimes people arrive with only the surface image of Egypt in mind. The challenge is helping them slow down enough to feel the deeper layers — the stories, the symbolism, the culture, and the energy of the places. Once they allow that, everything changes.

What is your process like when guiding someone through Egypt, and are there any variables that contribute to the depth, clarity, or transformation of their experience?

For me, every traveler is different. I like to understand what calls them to Egypt — history, spirituality, adventure, culture, or family. Once I understand that, I can shape the experience in a way that feels personal and meaningful. The more open and curious someone is, the deeper the journey becomes.

The people who choose to explore Egypt with you — what do they mean to you?

They mean a great deal to me. I never see them as tourists only. From the moment we begin our journey together, I want them to feel they are not simply visiting Egypt, but beginning a relationship with it. My hope is always that by the end of their time here, Egypt feels like a second home to them — a place they carry in their heart and long to return to. I feel responsible for their experience, their comfort, and their understanding of my country, and I carry that with pride.

What inspires you to get out of bed each day?

Egypt inspires me every day. This land holds the memory of so much human life, faith, empire, mystery, and devotion. To wake up here and help others touch even a small part of that deeper feeling is something I never take for granted.

When you’re not actively guiding tours, how do you spend your time?

When I’m not guiding tours, I spend my time close to home and with the people I love, always staying connected to the history and culture of Egypt. I especially love being on the Nile. There is a feeling there that is difficult to explain — peaceful, timeless, and deeply alive. The river carries the memory of this land, and every time I am near it, I feel grounded in something much older than myself. It always brings me back to center.

What’s coming up next for you?

I am continuing to create meaningful private and group experiences for travelers who want to see Egypt beyond the surface and truly connect with its history and spirit.

Is there anything else you’d like to share — upcoming tours, special experiences, or anything else on the horizon?

For anyone who feels called to Egypt, I believe that calling is meaningful, and I would take it as a signal. This is a land where history, spirit, and human origin all meet in a way that can still be felt today. My intention is always to help travelers move beyond the surface and experience Egypt as something living, sacred, and unforgettable.

Thank you for sharing your time. We look forward to all that is to come from you.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story. I look forward to welcoming more people to Egypt and helping them discover why this land stays with you long after you leave.
